Preparation of a bag after the kite was sent by Scott Skinner in February 2025.
Work started June 9th and was completed June 18th.
The process was both over-thought and under-thought. One initial requirement was a dacron reinforcement at the end of the bag.
The fabric 'selected' was a light grey ripstop that had come from Aarhus. It is light weight so I decided to double it up, further complicating what should really be a simple process, sew a tube and put two ends on it!
As the fabric was light weight it was also very slippery and so had to be secured at every step, prior to actual sewing.
The reinforced end was prepared.
A double length tube was prepared and then 'carefully' attached to the reinforced cap so that there were no loose edges inside the tube. An error was made at this point in that the shiny side of the fabric should have been on the eventual outside of the bag.
I decided that undoing the end cap sewing was not really a good idea and so set about figuring out how to 'finish' the outer layer around the reinforced end. Folding the fabric into 1/8 and 1/4 sections worked very neatly providing a square outer end corresponding to the square inner cap.
A generous hem was rolled after inserting a metal eyelet for the drawstring.
Threading the drawstring was achieved by using masking tape to temporarily stiffen the end of the string as I did not have a very large darning needle to hand!
